Family House
Using the qualities of the sloping site, we shaped the concept of this two-generation, three-storey family house. The basement level, sunk into the terrain on three sides, extends beneath the ground-floor volume and also spreads out perpendicular to it. This opens up the eastern, valley-facing facade, behind which the living spaces sit. At this level, behind the earth-covered facades, we placed the building's mechanical room and other storage and service spaces, whose ventilation and natural light are provided by light-well windows. The basement and ground floor are reached at different levels of the garden, giving the residents a healthy separation. The flat roof of the basement level functions as a terrace for the ground-floor gabled volume and connects to its living-dining space. Above the ground-floor living-dining area we opened up the ceiling, while an attic level runs above the other ground-floor rooms. In the house's exterior, the minimalist palette of white and grey facade render, grey roof tiles and sheet-metal structures is balanced by timber, which appears as facade cladding and in the pergola structure of the terrace, and also reflects the material of the KVH-CLT hybrid structure of the superstructure level. With the planned building, we were able to give shape to our clients' ideas in a way that they intend to build it on both plots they own, for their own use and as a guesthouse alike.
