Family House

An energy-efficient contemporary family house designed for a family's own use, shaped by the client's brief, a compact floor plan and the qualities of a steeply sloping site. The building is flat-roofed; its staggered rectangular-prism massing follows the terrain while creating a clean, classicizing character. The heart of the interior is the family's most actively used communal space: the dining-kitchen and living area, which is generously proportioned and optimally oriented to open directly onto the northern valley panorama. The massing also reflects the functional separation: the basement living zone has direct garden access, while the ground-floor lounge and study wing reads as an independent unit. A central staircase connects the living levels to the panoramic terrace on the flat roof. Off-white facades are completed by distinctive parapets, black joinery and slatted railings, producing a uniform, restrained appearance. The original character of the terrain is altered only minimally around the building; access and the garden connection are provided mainly by the necessary site steps and terraces.
